Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has endorsed former opposition leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.
Karua said that she will support Raila without any provocation.
“I am here to confirm that from now onwards, Narc Kenya, and I are going to support the Azimio presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, and this is without any provocation,” Karua said on Wednesday. Karua was addressing the media at a Nairobi hotel accompanied by Raila.
Karua defended her move to support Raila saying that the former opposition leader is selfless and has always put the nation above any other thing.
Martha said that she has been keenly weighing her options on which alliance to join and believes that Raila is still the best.
“All sides have people who do not believe in the rule of law, and all sides have good people. I have been looking keenly and I have been able without much struggle to identify a critical mass of good people within the Azimio coalition. And that is all that is needed for the liberation in this country,” Karua said.
“Nonetheless, I have identified a mass of good people in the Azimio la Umoja coalition.”
Raila welcomed Karua to the Azimio camp saying that she had no other option.
“People who were together in the struggle [for multiparty democracy] are on my side,” Raila said.
“I don’t think Karua [being one of the multiparty champions] had any other choice. The difference between Azimio la Umoja and the other political faction is akin to day and night or white and black.”
