IEBC confirms Marjani as its CEO

The electoral body has confirmed Marjan Hussein Marjan as its CEO.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati said Marjan was the most suitable during the just concluded recruitment process.
“The Commission has today appointed Marjan H. Marjan as the Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Marjan emerged as the top candidate out of the five that had been shortlisted. IEBC had received a total of 511 applications,” Chebukati said in a statement.

He was among five candidates who were shortlisted and will take over from Ezra Chiloba, who was fired over alleged gross misconduct.
“The Commission declared and advertised vacant posts for the Commission Secretary/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Deputy Commission Secretary (DCS) – Operations for competitive filling,” IEBC said.
Marjan has held the post in an acting capacity since April 2019. His rise started after he was appointed by Chebukati as the October 2017 repeat presidential poll coordinator.
The advertisement closed on 21st January 2022 and five Applicants for the position of Commission Secretary/CEO were shortlisted by the Recruitment Panel of the Commission composed of the Chairperson and all the Commissioners.
“Interviews for the shortlisted Applicants were conducted on the 8th of March 2022 and Marjan H. Marjan emerged top as the most qualified and suitable candidate for the position. The Commission congratulates Marjan on his new appointment as the Commission Secretary/CEO of IEBC,” IEBC said.
Interviews for the position of the Deputy Commission Secretary for the ten (10) shortlisted Applicants will be conducted on Wednesday and Thursday.
