Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyonka has been arrested by DCI officers in Kisii county.
The Mp was arrested following alleged insightful remarks he made on Sunday while addressing a gathering in the County.
Onyonka was taken to Kisii Central Police Station where he is being held.
County Criminal Investigations Officer Beatrice Kabaillah said she had instructions to ask the MP to appear at the DCI for instructions.
“I have instructions that in case you appear here I refer you to DCI headquarters,” Kaballah told the MP.
The arrest follows the DPP Noordin Haji directive on the DCI to investigate the MP following the alleged hateful remarks.
“Reference is made to a video clip circulating on social media platforms in which Hon Richard Onyoka, MP for Kitutu Chache constituency is addressing a gathering in Kisii County. The alleged remarks captured in the video clip may be contrary to Articles 33(2) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010,” the DPP said.
Haji noted that the MP’s remarks amount to hate speech as stipulated in the constitution.
The arrest comes two days after Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was arrested on Sunday over alleged hate speech remarks.
