At least six people were killed today, Monday morning, following an attack by al-Shabaab militants in the Widhu Majembeni area in Lamu County.
Police and survivors said the militants also torched several houses in the attack before escaping.
They added the first victim was shot dead, the second one was hacked to death while the other four were burnt to death in their house.
Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia said the police have launched an operation to arrest the attackers.
“We had an attack by suspected Al Shabab militants at a place known as Widhu, and we have lost six people. One was shot dead and we also have others who were burnt,” Macharia told the media.
“Our security forces are pursuing them, and we urge support from locals to help us because when we work together we succeed.”
Locals said that the incident occurred minutes past midnight, where the suspected militants captured one person and ordered him to take him to the other five.
They added that the militants torched farms where there were security rangers but they were not affected.
