Korogocho-Mathare Hospital renamed Mama Margaret Kenyatta

Mathare-Korogocho Level 5 Hospital will be renamed Mama Margaret Kenyatta Hospital.
The Sh400 million five-story hospital will accommodate 350 patients.
It is expected to decongest the patient load at Mama Lucy Hospital, which serves more than 2.1 million people from Eastlands.
Nairobi Metropolitan Services director-general Mohammed Badi said the hospital will start attending to patients, ahead of its official commissioning later December.
“This hospital had stalled for years, but will in a week open its doors to the public awaiting its commissioning,” Badi said over the weekend.
The Mama Margaret Kenyatta Hospital it’s a five-storey building with a 350-bed capacity. It will also have more than 250 workers skilled in different health cadres.
The hospital, which is has a 24-hour pharmacy, dialysis centre, an intensive care unit, burns unit and surgical theatres. It offers dialysis, radiology services, tuberculosis management, mortuary and autopsy services, pathology, chemotherapy and forensic services.
NMS Health services Director Ouma Oluga said Mathare-Korogocho Hospital will reduce the walk-in patients visiting Kenyatta National Hospital.
“We call on the public to take advantage of the specialised health care services available for free or at subsidised rates in these facilities,” Olunga said.
Construction started in 1989 but stalled.
