Embattled Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa is now a free man after prosecutors failed to press charges against him.
As a result, the court closed Mwendwa’s graft probe file and ordered Sh4 million cash bail refunded after the prosecution failed to prefer charges against the suspended FKF chairman.
Mwendwa was arrested last week after Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed disbanded the federation and formed a caretaker committee to run football activities for six months. The committee is chaired by retired judge Aaron.
The prosecution on Thursday told the court that there were no charges to be filed against Mwendwa after investigations started two weeks ago.
Mwendwa was arrested last week following alleged mismanagement of football funds and was on Monday arraigned in court.
The court barred Mwendwa from accessing his office or making public comments over the case or the investigations.
“No access to all the workers of FKF, no address to the media at all, not to attend any football-related activities until the ruling of November 17, 2021, is delivered. I mean even today’s game, that is if you are going to be out,” said Milimani Magistrate Wandia Nyamu.
