Fourteen people died on Wednesday night following a clash between herders and bandits in Suyan, Samburu County.
Samburu County Commissioner Abdrizak Jaldesa said the nine bandits and five herders died during a gun battle confrontation, which left scores of injured.
Jaldesa said that one of the victims is admitted to Maralal Referral Hospital with serious injuries, while two are admitted at Barsaloi hospital in the same county.
The three were shot at home.
He added that the bandits managed to escape with livestock, estimated to be around 500 heads of cattle.
Jaldesa said the security agencies have been mobilised to track the bandits and have already recovered 90 per cent of the stolen animals.
“We mobilised our teams and by 9 pm yesterday we were able to recover 90 per cent of the animals earlier stolen unfortunately we lost some lives… We will do a thorough follow up to ensure the animals that have not been stolen are traced…,” said the commissioner.
