It’s immoral, illegal for a leader to keep funds in offshore accounts, warn professionals, politicians

Leaders and professionals have said that it is illegals and immoral for public servants to keep money in offshore accounts.
The leaders said that public servants should invest locally to support the Kenyan economy.
“A leader, especially a third world leader who stashes money abroad knowingly, undermines the economic growth of his country,” former Justice Minister Martha Karua said on her Twitter account.

They were responding to international media expose that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family have funds in offshore accounts in Swiss.
Nairobi based lawyer Edward Mureu said that article 76 of the Kenyan constitution states that anyone working for the government should not have offshore accounts.
“Anyone working for the government should be able to account for their wealth and update of any sales made to their assets,” the lawyer said. Mureu was being interviewed by Iganjo FM.

The experts stated that article six of the constitution states that only parliament can make exceptions to state officers who can have offshore accounts.
“The reputation of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta will take a hit after his name surfaced in the ‘Pandora Papers’,” International Centre for Policy and Conflict Ndung’u Wainaina said.

The lawyer added that these offshore account names are disguised as companies and can easily be used to hide funds acquired from corruption.
He said that Kenya has the best returns and leaders should invest in the country.
“Kenya has the best returns and leaders should invest in the country, instead of investing their money outside the country this will build other countries economies leaving the country’s to sink,” he said.
