ODM has condemned violence against self-proclaimed businessman and party’s presidential aspirant Jimmy Wanjigi.
This is after goons chased Wanjigi out of Migori last Friday.
ODM urged the police in Migori to ensure culprits are brought to book.
“We have learnt of unfortunate incidents of Violence in Migori involving Jimmy Wanjigi. The Party takes this early opportunity to condemn the incidents and urge for tolerance and accommodation of every political view,” ODM said in a statement on its Twitter handle.
Wanjigi was attacked after he started addressing the party delegates at Maranatha Faith Assemblies Church hall in Migori town.
“We were contracted to offer a venue for a peaceful meeting of ODM delegates who wanted to meet Wanjigi at our hall, after chaos broke out we have terminated the meeting immediately,” Reverend Joshua Ater, who manages the venue told the press.
The rioting groups were armed with stones and other crude weapons.
Several delegates were beaten and injured, and properties were destroyed.
“The fracas left broken windows and blood splattered on the floors,” an eyewitness said.
The rioters chased everyone out of the venue warning that whoever goes on with the meeting will face the music.
“Because of the chaos caused by rowdy youths who appeared to be ODM delegates, we have terminated the meeting they may seek another venue,” Ater said.
Wanjigi was also later pelted with stones when he tried to address road rallies in Migori.
